Battlefield Preservation
The Civil War Preservation Trust has helped to save
more than 25,000 acres of Civil War battlefields.
That's land at more than 93 Civil War battlefields
in 18 states!
Our preservation accomplishments include:
- 565 acres at Resaca, Georgia
- 475 acres at Perryville, Kentucky
- 495.12 acres at Champion Hill, Mississippi
- 142 acres at Wilson's Creek, Missouri
- 480.76 acres at Bentonville, North Carolina
- 591 acres at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
- 299.6 acres at Ft. Donelson, Tennessee
- 250.6 acres at Chancellorsville, Virginia
- 962 acres at Malvern Hill, Virginia
- 1301.4 acres at Trevilian Station, Virginia
- 595 acres at Harper's Ferry, West Virginia

Other Programs
In addition to preserving Civil War battlefield land, CWPT conducts programs designed to inform the public about the events and consequences of the Civil War, foster an understanding of the need for preservation, and create a personal connection to the past.
Public Education - CWPT maintains a Two Week School Curriculum for use in classrooms everywhere.
Civil War Discovery Trail - a heritage
tourism initiative that links more than 600 Civil
War sites in 32 states, and promotes visitation through
themed itineraries; it is one of the White House Millennium
Council's sixteen flagship National Millennium Trails.

Civil War Explorer - an interactive, multimedia computer exhibit on the Civil War featuring photographs, maps, historic documents, video footage, music and narrative.
Events - Annual teacher institute, educational tours, conferences, reenactments, and preservation marches.
Battlefield Interpretation - wayside signs, brochures, and driving tours.
Online Preservation List - an e-mail list for battlefield preservation professionals to strengthen the preservation community (funded by the American Battlefield Protection Program of the National Park Service).
Park Day - an annual volunteer clean-up day for the Civil War sites we cherish.

CWPT Website - www.civilwar.org, includes details on preservation, Civil War history, and the Civil War Preservation Trust.
Hallowed Ground - CWPT's quarterly magazine, includes articles on history, preservation techniques and upcoming events.
The American Civil War Video - a ten-minute overview of the Civil War developed for schools and historic sites by CWPT with The History Channel.
Teacher and Student Programs - multiple programs ranging from a poster and essay contest for kids to workshops and curriculum guides for teachers.
